ARROW was super excited to unveil "One Mile of Love" to the public last Thursday night at Downtown Art Crawl in Monroe. We had a table set up at Sugar Gallery along with ARROW artist and designer, Emery Thibodeaux's artwork. Not only did we provide information about the upcoming mural project, but we encouraged all attendees to participate by drawing their own doodles to be considered for the final mural design!
Although most selected drawings are intended to be drawn by children, we allowed adults to draw as well, recommending that they get in touch with their inner child and not to worry about perfecting their image. Anyone who turned in a picture got their name in a raffle for a free dinner at Enoch's Pub and movie tickets. We could not believe how great of a turn out there was!
We are looking for images that reflect childhood, our community, friendship, faith, etc. We are not looking for perfect drawings, but pictures that display the essence of childhood art. We will then adapt these images into a cohesive and continuous design. We will be needing hundreds of submissions so we have gotten West Monroe area schools on board, and students will be creating in the classroom and getting them back to us in the next few weeks.
Here are a few of the many drawings from Thursday night that are great examples of the kinds of images we are looking for:
We also generated quite a bit of interest in sponsorships. This huge undertaking is going to cost a pretty large chunk of change and community support is very important to its success. We are currently working to get all of the sponsorship information together and will open it up for area businesses soon.
Thanks so much to all who came out to Art Crawl! We can't wait to see all the drawings come in and we are so excited to get started! If you are interested in sponsoring or volunteer opportunities please contact us.
